Irene Picciano graduated in Law at the University of Salerno in 1994.
After her admittance to the Bar in 1997 and a period of stage spent at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, she obtained a Postgraduate Master Degree (LL.M.) in European Law and Economics at the European College of Parma.
She joined the Firm in 1999, being in charge of the Brussels office until 2001.
Her expertise embraces all areas of European Union Law, with special emphasis on EU and domestic competition law.
Irene Picciano has gained a considerable experience in drafting and assessing distribution and horizontal cooperative agreements, as well as in handling notification of concentrations, before EU and Italian competition authorities, and has been responsible of coordinating several multiple merger filings and proceedings involving EU and Third Countries. She deals with cartel and abuse of dominance cases, "dawn-raid" investigations and competition risk management, and she regularly holds compliance courses on EU and national competition law for multinational companies.
Within her sector expertise, Irene Picciano also assists clients on issues of freedom of establishment and rendering of services - including complaints before the European Community for breach of EU Law - public procurements, state aids, structural funds and REACH legislation.
In performing her activities, Irene Picciano leads the Brussels based team of lawyers.
She is author of numerous publications on EU and competition law and has been lecturing on EU competition law at European College of Parma. She is a member of the Union des Avocats Européens (UAE).
